What is a sketch? I see sketches as artworks that require a reduced amount of time to create. They're spontaneous expressions of the imagination, where thought and control have less influence.

This does not mean that their value is less than a work on a larger scale. Very often sketches are portals towards our subconscious, able to open new doors and visions. They have the potential to be the seed of a prominent body of work to follow.
